Wilber Anderson - Race Director
|
| Born in Costa Rica, at 12 years old he was part of the swimming team that represented his hometown of Alajuela. At a very early age, Wilber learned to be independent and responsible – at 17 he worked as a lifeguard in the “Campestre los Reyes” club, where he is kindly remembered as the first person to organize and put together an event unknown to most people – “Everything came together very naturally. I had a bicycle that I used to go to work everyday, and since I liked running and swimming, it was part of my everyday job. Everything took me in this direction” – says the creator of possibly the very first triathlon in the history of Costa Rica. Wilber has a bachelor in graphic Arts at the A.B.M. in Costa Rica.In 1987, he migrated to the USA looking to exceed himself and accomplish his dreams. Wilber worked hard in many fields until he was able to raise enough money to establish Swim, Bike & Run – one of South Florida’s first and most important triathlon stores in the USA. After many years in the retail business accumulating plenty of experience in the field of triathlon events – by participating as sponsor, directly helping with key elements of local events, and managing and supporting a team of professional athletes – Wilber founded Miami Tri Events LLC – a company known for putting together one of Miami’s top Olympic distance triathlon events, the Miami International Triathlon, among others. As part of his latest accomplishments, he led the team behind the Ironman 70.3 Miami, the largest sporting event in the history of Miami. He is now using his experience to surpass all expectations in two brand new sport events: St. Augustine Marathon & 2575 Triathlon. |
